To update the syllabus is perceived to be a good indication in the Education arena. However this time may be the tables have turned around.
Are we ready for our learners to not study the Mughal History?
Yes! That dynasty which leaves it's legacy through the only Wonder of the World in India i.e The Taj Mahal, the ones who established a harmonious rule expanding over the boundaries of the sub-continent.
The new Syllabus minimizes the role of the Mughals as rulers who wanted to conquer India and therefore faced challenges from the Hindu Rulers like Maharana Pratap and Shivaji Maharaj.
Is this bias a reflection of the Hindutwa Party in power. Our religious sentiments have become so judgmental that we are altering History to suit the contemporary needs.
Shivaji, agreed is an efficient ruler who laid the foundation of Swaraj but has the Ministry done right calling him an 'Ideal Ruler' sidelining the heroic achievements of Akbar, for which he was until the last syllabus called as Akbar The Great!
Communalism sows its seeds best in educational institutions. I therefore urge the teachers to wear a neutral lens while teaching History.
